James E. "Jim" Holbert, (born July 10, 1952) is a Democratic candidate for United States Congress against Incumbent Congressman Hal Rogers, a Republican, in Kentucky's 5th District.

Early Years

Jim Holbert was born on July 10, 1952 in Knoxville, Tennessee and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in 1975 from the University of Tennessee and was certified as a secondary school teacher in science and mathematics before entering military service. He spent a total of 21 years in the the United States Army, Army National Guard, and United States Coast Guard, and worked at several flying jobs before choosing to settle in Kentucky.

2008 Campaign for Congress

Holbert ran as an Independent candidate for Congress against Republican incumbent Hal Rogers. Rogers won the election with 177,024 votes (84.1%) to Holbert's 33,444 (15.9%); total votes cast: 210,468.

2010 Campaign for Congress

On November 4th, 2008, Holbert announced his intent to seek the Democratic nomination for Congress in 2010.
